Fire Trucks for Kharkiv

Campaign: Fire Trucks for Kharkiv

After the withdrawal of Russian occupation forces, many eastern Ukrainian settlements are without electricity, heating and water. Nevertheless, most people do not want to leave their houses and apartments – because they do not know where to go. And because they don’t want to give up their towns and villages – their country.

But the Ukrainian winter is harsh. Temperatures can drop below minus 10 degrees for weeks and months. That’s why the brave people in eastern Ukraine need solidarity – your solidarity!

With your donation you help to bring armored vehicles of German fire departments to the east of Ukraine. The vehicles have four-wheel drive, a winch and an emergency generator; they also have space for thousand-liter drinking water tanks, mobile generators and other relief supplies.

The initiative for this solidarity campaign came from the author Ralf Bönt, and is supported by PEN Berlin and the journalist Liane Bednarz. Peace Prize winner Serhij Zhadan is leading the effort on the ground.

Larger donations have already been made by the Sebastian Pape family, PPI AG, Pape Invest, the DFB Egidius Braun Foundation, the Hapag-Lloyd shipping company and PEN Berlin.

Two fire engines have already been reserved. But more are available – and more is needed: fuel, spare tires, snow chains, additional heaters, chlorine tablets for water treatment, and so on. The trucks are expected to leave fully packed.

Become a part of the fire department for Kharkiv! Help the people in Eastern Ukraine to survive the winter! Please donate here until December 31.

Thank you!
