On 9 November, PEN Berlin and btb Verlag invite audiences to the German premiere of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi’s newly published autobiography at Deutsches Theater Berlin. In her book »A Woman Never Stops Fighting – Our Struggle for Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights in Iran«, much of which Mohammadi wrote while imprisoned, the human rights activist tells her own story for the first time.

For decades, Narges Mohammadi has fought for women’s rights and human rights, against the death penalty and for a free Iran. Her activism has led to repeated imprisonment, torture and lengthy prison sentences. In her autobiography, she recounts her life as an activist and mother, her tireless commitment to freedom and equal rights, and her personal experiences of years of repression.

While German headlines focus primarily on the Strait of Hormuz, at least 35 people have already been executed in the Islamic Republic of Iran in connection with protests earlier this year. Repression against the country’s own population continues to intensify.

Entitled »For Narges Mohammadi – An Evening Dedicated to Freedom, Democracy and Equal Rights for Women in Iran«, the event will focus on the current human rights situation in Iran and the work of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

The discussion will feature Mariam Claren, spokesperson for the Narges Foundation in Germany, Düzen Tekkal, founder of HÁWAR.help, and artist Ghazal Abdollahi, whose mother was imprisoned alongside Mohammadi for many years. Actress Jasmin Tabatabai will read excerpts from Mohammadi’s book. The event will be moderated by author Daniela Sepehri, a member of the PEN Berlin Board.
