An Evening for Julian Assange

Assange Flyer Demo

»I have never seen a group of democratic states come together to deliberately isolate, demonise and disrespect a single individual for so long.« (UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Nils Melzer, on Julian Assange)

For over ten years, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has lived in unfreedom; for seven long years as a political refugee in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, and since 2019 in solitary confinement in the UK.

He is now severely damaged physically and mentally, with no end to the nightmare in sight. Because Assange used WikiLeaks to make US war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan public, the United States is pursuing him with relentless vengeance. European states have also become complicit in this judicial scandal through action (Great Britain, Sweden) or omission (Germany).

That is why PEN Berlin is organising an evening for its honorary member Julian Assange. Because journalism is not a crime.

Discussion with Anke Domscheit-Berg, Bascha Mika and Deniz Yücel, moderated by Hajo Schumacher.

Followed by the documentary film »Hacking Justice« by Juan Pancorbo and Clara López Rubio, who will be present on the evening.

Monday, September 12th, 2022, 7.30 pm, Cinema Babylon, Berlin-Mitte
