PEN Berlin – The Trick is to Keep Talking

We promised – after our much-noticed foundation in June 2022, the association law is now followed by the content.

PEN Berlin invites to talk, to argue and to dance.

From 2 p.m. on the stage of Festsaal Kreuzberg:

Adriana Altaras, Konstantin Küspert, Jo Lendle, Jackie Thomae and Simone Buchholz about the poetry of failure. “Without mistakes I would not exist at all.” (Adriana Altaras)

Ursula Krechel, Tanja Maljartschuk, Khuè Pham, Meral Simsek, Herbert Wiesner and Michel Friedman on Violence, Memory, Literature. “No matter what happens, I want to stay. And I can only stay by writing.” (Tanja Maljartschuk)

Aladin El-Mafaalani, Jan Fleischhauer, Karen Köhler, Manja Präkels and Ijoma Mangold on the freedom of the word. “The promise of PEN Berlin is that people here are forced to endure each other, who otherwise take every opportunity to run away from each other.” (Jan Fleischhauer)

At the beginning Eva Menasse welcomes the audience, the debate part will be closed at 8:30 p.m. by Ayad Akhtar, president of PEN America, with a keynote speech on freedom of expression.

And after the discussion it’s time for music:

9 p.m. – Concert Muff Potter live

10.30 p.m. Disko Inferno, Club Night with PEN Berlin
